OR SHOULD WE BRING MADDOX BACK?
"The best trousers in the world? Too bad I didn't design them," says Antonina Samecka, designer at Risk made in Warsaw. "These are trousers designed by Damian Nowacki - founder and designer of Madox Design, and I have a lot of them in my wardrobe. I dreamt of new ones, but a few years ago Madox closed down the brand and there's no way to get them anymore...". This is – in a nutshell – the beginning of the joint project between Risk and Madox. Because then Antonina simply called Damian and asked: "How about we bring back Madox trousers?", and Damian didn't hesitate for long. Well, maybe for about a second. ;) And he said: YES.
"I made trousers for myself."
Damian Nowacki founded the Madox brand in 2011 (Risk was founded in the same year!). He designed parkas, sweatshirts, bomber jackets, but his beloved "child" was a pair of unisex trousers with a characteristic buttoned flap, tailored to both male and female figures. The design was so unique that Madox patented it. And how did he come up with it? "It started with me deciding to make trousers for myself. Those in shops always lacked something for me. Perhaps character? I added buttons to my trousers, originally inspired by naval uniforms. From the beginning, a contrasting lining was also the starting point – at first, it was only turned up at the leg cuffs. Then I added it to a pocket that can be fully fastened or unfastened from either side, and in which you can carry everything you need to have at hand – keys, phone, wallet.
MADOXY WON HEARTS
Initially, these were trousers just for me. The first pair was made of light denim, with a red and white striped lining, sailor buttons, and white cord… The reactions – both positive and negative – to my invention made me decide to sew, produce clothes, and create my own brand. It dawned on me that maybe this is what I want to do in life,” Damian recounts. Madox's designs quickly won the hearts of many. ;) A close-knit community of fans was formed; rarely did anyone have just one pair of these trousers – usually, it was just the beginning of a collection.
RISK <3 MADOX
Madox and Risk have a long shared history. "We met at our first trade show. Damian Nowacki was an inspiration to us back then; he knew exactly how to make clothes look good on a hanger and at a trade show. We knew nothing beyond design. ;) We were two brands developing in parallel, a real dream team. He wore our hoodies (yes, we used to have men's clothing), and we loved his trousers, parkas, and windbreakers," Antonina recalls.
CHANGES, CHANGES
In 2020, Damian closed the brand and returned to his hometown, where he lives with three dogs and deals in vintage clothing, upcycling projects, and completed... gardening courses. Because nature excites him most now. ;) "Life in Warsaw was great, but here I found peace and I am happy," says Damian.

And what does he think about the return of the Madoxes? “I wouldn’t agree to have them produced by someone I don’t know, someone I don’t trust. But Risk and Antonina are different.” The new Madoxes, sewn from a soft, delightful knit fabric in the color of morning espresso – and with a feisty lining, Risk's signature leopard print, are our tribute to Madox, its iconic design, and the fans who even formed groups under the slogan “MADOX MUST RETURN”. Quoting Damian after he tried them on for the first time: “These are Madoxes just like mine!”

Madoxes are iconic, unisex drop-crotch pants, with tapered legs, a characteristic button-down flap with a contrasting lining, and a cut adapted for both female and male figures.
